Design + Code + Collaboration

Jessie Litven
Website Designer and Junior Developer

HTML + CSS + Bootstrap + WordPress

I enjoy designing, implementing, and maintaining websites for individuals & small businesses.

JavaScript + jQuery

What will the future bring? We can’t be certain, but it will likely include more JavaScript and its frameworks.

PHP + MySQL

Connecting to databases is like planting seeds in your garden and then having freshly cooked stir-fries already made in your kitchen.

Python

Python taught me that for mat
ting mat
ters.

iOS/Swift + Android/Java

Have you ever thought, “they should have an app for that?” I have too, and now I’m excited to bring some of those thoughts to reality.

Unity/c#

I discovered that a pro and con of game dev is testing. While it can be entertaining to play your own games, sometimes it’s just too entertaining.

About Me

I have a proclivity for creating organization and structure, and at the same time I love of improvisation and artistic spontaneity. This has lead me to work in a variety of fields, from web design and WordPress maintenance, to teaching dance and Tibetan translation, to building my own tiny house.

These are a small sample of projects completed during the 12-week coding bootcamp at NSCC.

Elegant To-Do List

Javascript & jQuery

I created this simple to-do list using jQuery, HTML, & CSS. I tried to emulate the clean look and feel of Google Keep. The meta aspect of this project was that I used the to-do list to organize and complete the tasks necessary to build the to-do list.

Planayana

PHP & HTML/CSS

To put my understanding of Bootstrap, PHP, and MySQL in practice, we were asked to build an online shop “just like Amazon.” Aside from the lack of payment handler, it is a fully functioning store. I had fun with MySQL statements and … colours!

Blackjack

Python

After only 30 hours of Python instruction (and 3 hours of playing blackjack with my classmates), I created this game from scratch, which gave me a taste for how object-oriented programming works. Interestingly, the only way to finish the game is to run out of money :/

Tic Tac Toe

Swift/XCode| iOS app

Of all the projects and labs, this was one of the most logic-involved, taking a whole lunch-hour with a paper and pen to work it out by hand. Note that the computer plays fast, which is meant to intimidate you. Includes original artwork.

Choose Your Own Adventure

Java/Android Studio | Android App

This project was day two of learning Java. While the app itself is relatively simple, I include it here because the choices are riveting, the stories and photos are drawn from real life events, but the outcome is up to you.

Cat Chat

Java/Android Studio | Android App

For this project, I connected with Google’s Firebase to create a one-room chat app, specially designed for cat-lovers. Note that sign-in is required for the app, & it is required to rotate the emulator to run app properly.

Here’s how people feel about working with me:

Dorothee Rosen client-profile

Jessie has been in incredible resource for my business for over a decade. Without her, I don’t think my business would have achieved what it has, especially when COVID hit, and everything had to be moved online in a hurry. This required thinking outside the box and figuring out new solutions – something Jessie is excellent at.

While Jessie is great at WordPress and WooCommerce, and Custom CSS, HTML, Javascript (without her, I wouldn’t even know what those are!), she is more than just a technician.

As artists, out-of-the-box options don’t always work for us. From re-building my website to maintaining it, her intelligent feedback and keen eye moves me forward again and again. When I want something different, she figures out how to do it (or provides alternatives).

She worked with all my shipping providers to integrate their shipping modules, and built many custom integrations.

She supported my move to Lightspeed, and customized their print templates for my discerning eye using code. They look great and match my brand!

When my business operations needed to run more efficiently, she helped me implement project- and task-management platform Asana, including using Zapier integrations to automate emails being directly delivered into my To-Do List in Asana.

All I can say: Jessie Litven is a real gem, and you are lucky to have her, if you can get her.

Dorothée Rosen

I wish Jessie could be on my team for every new project. She perfectly balances logical and creative thinking to get things done effectively and with flair. She’s optimistic and hard-working, ensuring that everything gets done.

Carolyn Hocquard

I have worked with Jessie Litven of Beezwings Designs for about a year now and have been very pleased with Jessie’s work on my Shopify website. Jessie works promptly and professionally and adapts strategies to my particular business and philosophy. Whenever I contact Jessie she responds quickly to whatever request or question I have with thoughtful feedback. I am planning to hire Jessie again this fall to help with social media and marketing strategies and am
sure that we will continue to work together.

Thanks a bunch for coding your Tic Tac Toe game. I really enjoyed watching you work through the logic of it all, it was probably one of the high points of the program for me.

Wherever you end up working will benefit from having you around. You’re exactly what I’d look for as a junior dev and I’m sure you’ll have a really interesting career ahead of you.
